Public betting splits and line movement for Montgomery Bowl: Memphis vs. FAU

We break down the public betting splits and how the lines have moved for the Memphis Tigers and Florida Atlantic Owls in the Montgomery Bowl.

The Birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement is the home to college football today, as the Memphis Tigers face the Florida Atlantic Owls in the Montgomery Bowl, which takes place in the Cramton Bowl stadium in Alabama’s state capital.

So where are sports bettors going as we get closer to game time? Let’s take a look. All odds and info were provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.

Point Spread

Memphis is an eight-point favorite as of now, with 59% of the handle and 59% of the bets on the Tigers.

Is the public right?

This is possibly the last game for Tigers quarterback Brady White, and U of M has won four of their last five. But only three of those four wins came against FBS teams, and were by a combined total of seven points.

But Florida Atlantic lost 45-31 to Southern Miss in their last game on December 10th, and that’s a capital offense to the wagering community. If they didn’t show up for a conference game, will they show up for a bowl? We’ll take the Tigers here.

The total is 49.5, with 24% of the handle and 61% of the bets on the over.

Is the public right?

A 49.5-point total with the spread of -8 means bettors project FAU should score 21.25 points in this game. FAU might not score 21 points if this game lasted until Boxing Day. They only put 24 on UMass, the absolute worst team in America, and three (3!!) on Georgia Southern.

We’ll ride with the sharp side and stay under, and just hope Memphis doesn’t put up 5+ touchdowns themselves.

Memphis is a -295 favorite, with FAU +235 on the moneyline.

Is the public right?

This sounds right to us. If Memphis has any desire to show up today, they should handle this game with ease.

Montgomery Bowl: Memphis vs. FAU

Opening line: Memphis -10.5
Current line: Memphis -8

There is for sure some reverse line movement here, which is an indication to be very careful wagering on this game. Keep an eye out for key injuries or more Covid-19 opt-outs closer to kickoff, as Memphis only dressed 52 players for their last game against Houston.

The Pick: Under 49.5.
