Two programs from smaller southern cities that love their school head to the New Orleans Bowl in 2020 as the Georgia Southern Eagles face the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs live from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Wednesday.

So where are sports bettors going as we get closer to game time? Let’s take a look. All odds and info were provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.

Point Spread

The game opened with Georgia Southern as a 4.5 point favorite, and GATA is now at 5.5, with 74% of the action and 55% of the bets on the Eagles.

Is the public right?

GaSo runs the triple option, and triple teams tend to do very well in bowl games. While their opponent has more time to prepare, the commitment needed to stop the dive, pitch, and pass might be more than players expecting to hang out on a mini-vacation want to give. We think GSU is the play up to a TD here.

Over/Under

The total opened at 51.5, but is down to 48.5. 35% of the handle, but a whopping 81% of the tickets, are on the over.

Is the public right?

This number has been rounded into shape by the wagering community. The Bulldogs can score a little, but they concede 425 yards per game and 184.6 of them are on the ground. That’s a license for the Eagles to commit to 10-minute drives and controlling possession, but will they be able to score too easily is the question.

At 48.5, we’re back to liking the over.

Moneyline

Georgia Southern is at -225, with Louisiana Tech at +180

Is the public right?

These seem right to us, and efficient markets mean stay away. We’ll be on the spread here, but avoiding the moneyline.

New Orleans Bowl: Georgia Southern vs. Louisiana Tech

Opening line: Georgia Southern 4.5
Current line: Georgia Southern 5.5

It looks like the public sees Georgia Southern controlling this game on the ground. That’s probably correct, but the indoor conditions in an empty Superdome will make it easier for extra possessions, and that will keep us away from the over.

The pick: Georgia Southern -5.5
