In one of the clearest signs as to just how barren the tight end position has been for fantasy football lineups this season, Jared Cook of the New Orleans Saints remains a viable starting option again this week. Even the return of Drew Brees under center didn’t give his sagging stats a boost. But this week’s tilt against the Vikings at least hold out some hope for Cook to be a decent option in what’s likely your fantasy championship game.
Fantasy Football analysis: Saints TE Jared Cook
One bit of good news for Cook is that he was tied for second on the team in targets last week with five. He caught two of them for 29 yards. In the two games before that, with Taysom Hill at QB, Cook caught six passes on nine targets and scored in both outings. His fantasy value is tied pretty closely to his ability to score occasionally.
The Vikings have given up five touchdowns to tight ends this season; the last one came two weeks ago against the Buccaneers. With Brees struggling to push the ball down the field and Michael Thomas out of action, Cook is one of few options he’ll have in the red zone
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Cook is an acceptable play as a TE2 this week.
