Best value lineup strategy for Saints-Vikings Christmas Showdown

We go over some of the top DFS value plays for Friday’s Week 16 matchup between the Saints and Vikings

The Saints and Vikings have plenty of history, especially in the playoffs of late, but this is a new season and both of these teams are again in positions where they need a win. Both teams have some strong fantasy plays, especially the Vikings, who have three must start players every week, but the Saints spread the ball around a bit more and it’s tougher to figure out who will end up with strong fantasy games. That’s where we will likely look for value this week to see could help you win the SNF DraftKings Showdown? Let’s discuss some options below.

Jared Cook, TE, $5,600

The Saints are very thin at receiver, with Michael Thomas on IR and Tre’Quan Smith’s ankle injury. If Smith is out, Cook becomes an even better option, but even if he can play, Cook’s price is very much worth giving him a spot on your roster.

Irv Smith Jr./Tyler Conklin, TEs, $5,200/$3,000

Kyle Rudolph’s status for this game remains up in the air, but there’s a chance he misses his third straight game with a foot injury. That will push Smith and Conklin into more work again. Last week, it was Conklin who led the way in fantasy points. Over the last two games without Rudolph, Conklin has nine targets to Smith’s eight, but both have found the end zone and have similar yardage numbers. This is a situation where you can go with the cheaper player if needed to fit your roster.

Saints Wide Receivers

We are going to need some clarity on all the receivers not named Emmanuel Sanders for the Saints this week. Tre’Quan Smith is battling an ankle injury and Marquez Callaway could possibly return from IR, but playing a full set of snaps on Friday would be a lot to ask. Last week with Smith injured in the game, we saw Sanders, Juwan Johnson, Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Tommylee Lewis all see work, but only Sanders and Humphrey had any receptions. Playing one of these cheaper receivers is pretty much a dart throw, but Humphrey would be my choice if Smith is out.

Taysom Hill, QB, $6,000

Hill has returned to his Swiss army knife role, which doesn’t have much of a workload tied to it, but does sometimes put him in scoring position. Last week he rushed for a touchdown and still only scored 6.3 DK points. There is upside for more, but he’s still a risky pick just for GPPs.
