Game status: Matthew Stafford is ACTIVE for Week 16.
The Detroit Lions are playing out the string and they face a tough matchup in Week 16. They host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to open the Week 16 Saturday slate, and will be rolling out a banged-up Matthew Stafford at quarterback.
Stafford has been dealing with injuries to his ribs and the thumb on his throwing hand. He was listed as limited all three days and is questionable on the final injury report. Stafford injured his ribs in Week 14 and initially wasn’t expected to play last week. However, he ended up playing and would seem to be on track to play against the Bucs.
Fantasy impact: Matthew Stafford (ribs, right thumb)
It’s been a rough year for Stafford, dealing with injuries and not having Kenny Golladay for most of the season. Stafford has four games north of 20 fantasy points, but he’s gone back and forth between good and bad games.
This week, he faces a Bucs defense that ranks seventh in pass efficiency, but ranks 17th in fantasy points allowed to the quarterback position. The Lions are a 9.5-point underdog, and it would not be surprising to see this game a bit out of hand. Stafford’s value is in garbage time and considering he’s the 14th ranked quarterback, hopefully you can find better options for what is likely your fantasy football championship game.
