Game day update: Alex Smith will not get the start against Carolina as he is not quite ready, per Ian Rapoport. Dwayne Haskins will start in Week 16.

The Washington Football Team enters Week 16 with a chance to clinch the NFC East title. If they beat the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants lose to the Baltimore Ravens, Washington will be headed to the playoffs.

Washington is favored against Carolina, but the big question heading into Sunday is the quarterback position. Alex Smith is questionable due to a calf injury and the team has not announced its starting quarterback for the game. Dwayne Haskins would start if Smith can’t go. But do you start either of them in your fantasy football championship game?

Fantasy Football analysis: Washington QBs Alex Smith, Dwayne Haskins

Neither quarterback has wow’d this season. Smith has put up some sizable yardage totals, but they’ve been fairly empty box scores. His best game of the season saw him net a mere 16 points in Week 10 in spite of throwing for 390 yards. In seven appearances, he has never thrown more than one touchdown in a game.

Smith was a full participant in practice on Friday, which bodes well for his Sunday status. If he does not go and Haskins starts, the value is the same or lower. We get more rushing attempts from Haskins, but it’s not for much.

Washington faces a Panthers defense that ranks 20th in total points allowed and 18th in fantasy points allowed to the quarterback position. It’s a fairly mediocre unit, but there’s still not much upside in Washington’s quarterbacks.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Sit whichever quarterback starts for Washington.
