How and what to watch for Cheez-It Bowl: No. 18 Miami vs. No. 21 Oklahoma State

Two top-25 teams representing the Big XII and the ACC, respectively, will do battle in Orlando.

Two top-25 programs will clash at Camping World Stadium in Orlando to close the 2020 campaign when the No. 18 Miami Hurricanes welcomes the No. 21 Oklahoma State Cowboys to the Sunshine State for the Cheez-It Bowl.

Despite a few hiccups like getting trashed by North Carolina 62-26 on Dec. 12, the Hurricanes mostly looked solid throughout an 8-2 campaign this fall and won in a variety of fashions, from a 25-24 nailbiter over Virginia Tech to a 48-0 blowout of Duke late in the season.

Playing in the bowl game is transfer quarterback D’Eriq King, who lived up to the hype coming into the season by throwing for over 2,500 yards on 8.2 yards per attempt, 22 touchdowns and only five picks through the air while also adding 520 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Opting to not play in the game are the NFL Draft- bound defensive end tandem of Jaelan Phillips and Quincy Roche, whoc combined for 30 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks in 2020.

Mike Gundy’s OSU Cowboys flirted with a Big XII championship game berth midway through the season before going 3-3 down the stretch as losses to Texas, Oklahoma and TCU derailed those conference title hopes.

The strength of the Cowboys was actually on the defensive side of the ball with them clocking in at 13th in defensive SP+ this week. Offensively, star running back Chubba Hubbard has long opted out of the season but leading wide receiver Tylan Wallace will suit up against the Hurricanes. Wallace has hauled in 53 receptions for 872 yards and six touchdowns this year.

The Best Bet

The Hurricanes will be looking to end the regular season on a winning note when they take on the Cowboys. Miami will be without three of their best defensive players, which is good news for Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders and wide receiver Tylan Wallace. The duo should be able to make some noise against a Hurricanes defense that is giving up 12.6 yards per completion in their last three games.

Pick: Oklahoma State (-2)
