How Titans can clinch playoff berth, AFC South in Week 17

The Titans are on the verge of clinching the AFC South. We break down what they need to do in Week 17 to earn a spot in the 2021 NFL playoffs.

The Tennessee Titans control their playoff fate heading into Week 17 — well, as much as one can control “fate.” The Titans are 10-5 and hold the tiebreaker edge over the Colts thanks to a better record in divisional games. The Titans will clinch a playoff berth and the AFC South title with a win over the Texans or a Colts loss to the Jaguars, or if both teams tie.

Even if the Titans lose out on the division, they have a chance to earn a wild card berth in the 2021 NFL playoffs. If they lose, they simply need a loss from one of the Dolphins or Ravens in Week 17. The Dolphins travel to face Buffalo and the Ravens travel to face Cincinnati. If the Titans tie the Texans and the Colts beat the Jaguars, Tennessee would clinch a wild card berth with the Dolphins or Ravens finishing their games in a tie or the Browns losing at home to Pittsburgh.

The Titans entered the 2020 season expected to compete for a playoff spot, and with the second best odds to win the AFC South at DraftKings Sportsbook. The Colts were favorites coming into Week 1 at +120, but the Titans were right behind them at +160. Tennessee’s pre-Week 1 odds simply to earn a playoff berth were -134.
