UPDATE: Dec. 29, 6:41 p.m. — Markkanen is in the starting lineup Tuesday night vs. the Wizards.
UPDATE: Dec. 29, 5:34 p.m. — Markkanen is being considered a game-time decision for Tuesday vs. the Wizards, per the 5:30 p.m. injury report. Thad Young is expected to be back but it’s unclear who would start in place of Markkanen.
Chicago Bulls PF Lauri Markkanen is questionable to play in Tuesday’s game vs. the Washington Wizards due to a lower left leg contusion. SF/PF Thaddeus Young is probable with a similar injury. The Bulls are off to a rough 0-3 start to the season after a loss to the Warriors on a buzzer-beater on Sunday night. Chicago may be without its starting power forward against the Wizards.
If Markkanen is sidelined, we could see either Thad or Otto Porter Jr. enter the starting lineup in his place. Mark has had a strong start to the season despite the Bulls record. He’s averaging 20 points and 7.7 rebounds on 53 percent shooting from the floor and 48 percent from beyond the arc. The Bulls offense will need to lean more on Zach LaVine, Coby White and Wendell Carter Jr. if Markkanen is sidelined.
As for the betting aspect, we don’t have the line on this game yet but it should favor the Wizards at home. The Bulls covered the spread in Sunday’s loss but had been blown out in the first two games by a wide margin. If Markkanen sits, the Wizards could be a good bet on the spread if it’s not too high. The game total is also a point of interest. Both teams aren’t strong defensively and play up in pace. Porter or Young in for Markkanen is a slight upgrade for Chicago’s defense but not enough to stunt the offense.
