The FIU Panthers will be trying to get their first win on the season when they take on the Charlotte 49ers Saturday at 12:00 p.m. ET in Charlotte, NC.
The Panthers (0-5) were actually scheduled to play Charlotte earlier this season, but the game was postponed due to COVID-19. The last time we saw FIU play, they lost to Western Kentucky 38-21 a couple of weeks ago. The Panthers held an early 14-3 lead but couldn’t stop Hilltoppers running back Gaej Walker, who had 127 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. WKU QB Tyrell Pigrome had two rushing touchdowns himself, along with 125 passing yards.
Offensively for the Panthers, running back D’vonte Price had 24 carries for 100 yards. It was the fourth time in five games that he has ran for at least 100 yards. FIU will be hoping that he continue to pick yards on the ground, going against a Charlotte run defense which is allowing 213.2 rushing yards per game.
As for the 49ers (2-3), this is last game of the 2020 regular because their last four games have been canceled or postponed due to COVID-19. Charlotte last took the field on Halloween against the Duke Blue Devils, losing 53-19. The Niners could not stop Blue Devils’ running game, which amassed 274 yards and six touchdowns. But Charlotte’s offense could get back on track against a FIU defense that is allowing 422.8 yards of total offense this season.

The Best Bet
FIU is flat-out playing out the string, and hasn’t looked impressive all season. With this being Senior Day for a 49ers team that’s been off for a month, we’ll take the home team to get to .500 and cover while doing so.
Pick: Charlotte -9.5
