The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the NC State Wolfpack both got to celebrate respective victories last week, and will strive to do the same when meeting each other in Raleigh on Saturday.
Playing their first game in a month, Georgia Tech sprung out and hammered Duke for a 56-33 blowout victory, posting two touchdowns in each quarter of play. Promising young quarterback Jeff Sims had a promising day both through the air and on the ground. But the story was the Tech defense forcing five turnovers, holding the Blue Devils to just 7-of-20 on third and fourth downs and rendering Duke’s their rushing attack virtually useless on just 1.7 yards per carry.
Despite suffering six sacks, a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a safety, Wolfpack QB Bailey Hockman and his teammates powered through for a 36-29 win over Syracuse. Hockman played the best game of his young career, going 23-of-31 through the air for 313 yards, four touchdowns and one pick. NC State managed to survive a late comeback attempt and secure their third straight victory when Cuse QB Rex Culpepper inexplicably spiked the ball on fourth down with the Orange in the redzone looking to tie the game.
