BYU must really like sports. The BYU Cougars football team did an admirable job to fill up most of its schedule to get in somewhat of a full season, and the hoops team already heading into its sixth game of the year. The Cougars will head on the road to take on the Utah State Aggies on Saturday night.

BYU has a 4-1 record so far, starting off with three blowout wins against something called Westminster in addition to New Orleans and Utah Valley. In the Cougars’ first game against a real opponent, they were blown out by USC and got the best of St. John’s on Wednesday night 74-68. Alex Barcello played really well in this one with 20 points on 8 of 11 shooting including 3 of 6 from the three-point line and five assists.

This has certainly been an interesting start to the season for Utah State. The Aggies were handled fairly easily against VCU and South Dakota State before beating a surprisingly winless Northern Iowa team on Nov. 27. Utah State will have had more than a week between games when it gets ready for BYU.

The Best Bet

Let’s keep riding with BYU, which continues to both beat and cover against Utah State on a very consistent basis. The Aggies haven’t exactly done a great job trying to replace Sam Merrill, who was selected in the NBA Draft. Utah State is unlikely to get blown out like it did twice already through three games, but the Cougars have seen the court nearly twice as much as the Aggies early on this season, and that’s part of the reason to favor BYU to cover this small point spread.

Pick: BYU -1.5
