Are you ready for Sunday Night Football - college style? The USC Trojans will return to the field to host the Washington State Cougars on Sunday night. Washington State hasn’t played since Nov. 14, while the Trojans last appeared in a game on Nov. 21.

USC checks in with a 3-0 record and is ranked No. 20 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. In its last time out, USC took down Utah 33-17 on the road after completing late comebacks in the Trojans’ first two victories against Arizona State and Arizona. The Trojans looked better than they have all year against the Utes, but it still doesn’t seem like they are playing to their potential. We’ll see if Kedon Slovis can keep progressing and the defense can play as well as it did against Utah.

As for Washington State, it will play a maximum of four regular season games at this point in the first year under head coach Nick Rolovich. After beating Oregon State 38-28 in Game 1, the Cougars kept it close with Oregon through 3.5 quarters before the Ducks pulled away, winning by a pair of touchdowns. Washington State quarterback Jayden de Laura tested positive for the coronavirus, but Rolovich said he expects him to return on Sunday.

USC won the previous matchup between these two teams 39-36 at home in 2018.

The Best Bet

USC will win this game, but the Trojans do not appear to have that killer instinct to blow teams out. It has to be an incredibly frustrating time to be a part of the Washington State football program, so the Cougars will be energized and ready to win what is probably being looked at as their biggest game on this year’s schedule. I wouldn’t be shocked if Washington State pulls off this upset but if you’re handing the Cougars 13 points before kickoff, I’ll gladly take those.

Pick: Washington State +11.5
