We’re used to being confused about starting running backs, but quarterback confusion is a little more rare. But here we are. The Dolphins are likely going to wait until Sunday to make it official whether Tua Tagovailoa or Ryan Fitzpatrick will be their starter against the Bengals. However, there’s quite a bit of a difference when it comes to fantasy football potential, so you should be prepared for either player getting the call.

Fantasy Football analysis: Dolphins QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tua Tagovailoa

Tagovailoa, who’s dealing with a thumb injury on his throwing hand, has been limited in practice this week. On Friday, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network acknowledged the “real possibility” that Fitzpatrick could start this week.

Fitz started last week in place of the injured rookie. He had 257 passing yards and two touchdowns against the Jets. If he’s under center this week, he has the chance at another solid fantasy day against a Bengals team allowing an average of more than 20 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks.

It’s not a bad matchup for Tagovailoa either, if he can play. But with an injury on his throwing hand, he’s got a low ceiling on what he can do.

Fitzpatrick makes a decent streaming option this week. Tagovailoa is probably best left on the bench.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Start Ryan Fitzpatrick. Sit Tua Tagovailoa.
