How and what to watch for West Virginia vs. Georgetown

After losing by five points to Gonzaga, West Virginia is ready to play Georgetown in the Big East-Big 12 challenge Sunday.

NCAA Basketball Tournament - East Regional - Boston

The 11th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers will be looking to get back into the win column when they travel to the nation’s capital to play the Georgetown Hoyas Sunday at 4:30 p.m ET.

The last we saw the Bob Huggins-led Mountaineers (3-1), they lost 87-82 to the No. 1 ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs this week. West Virginia received tremendous performances from forwards Derek Culver and Oscar Tshiebwe. Culver had a team-high 18 points and 15 rebounds. Tshiebwe was West Virginia’s second-leading scorer with 14 points and nine rebounds. Both Culver and Tshiebwe helped WVU win the rebounding battle over the Zags (41-36), but they did not have an answer for their shooting.

Gonzaga shot 49.3 percent from the field and got a great performance off the bench from Andrew Nembhard, who had 19 points, six assists, and five rebounds. The Zags needed that because they lost freshman standout Jalen Suggs to a foot injury.

The Hoyas (1-1) are looking to rebound after their seven-point loss to the Navy Midshipmen on Tuesday. Jahvon Blair and Jamorko Pickett led the scoring for the Bulldogs as they each had 17 points a piece. However, Georgetown could not stop Navy’s starting backcourt of Cam Davis and John Carter Jr., who combined for 48 points. The Hoyas also allowed Navy to shoot 50 percent from the field and only forced nine turnovers.
