Game status: Chris Boswell is INACTIVE for Week 13. The Steelers promoted Matthew Wright from the practice squad to handle kicking duties.
Sunday update: Boswell has been downgraded to doubtful for Monday, per team PR. Look for the Steelers to promote Matthew Wright to the 53-man roster on Monday.
The Pittsburgh Steelers face some notable injury questions heading into Week 13 Monday against the Washington Football Team, and kicker Chris Boswell is among them. Boswell was a late addition to the team’s injury report on Saturday. He had practiced in full on Thursday and Friday, but then sat out practice on Saturday with a hip injury. He was listed as questionable on the final injury report.
The Steelers signed kicker Matthew Wright to the practice squad on Monday. Whether it was a coincidence, a Covid-19 insurance plan, or Boswell was feeling something earlier in the week, Wright would likely be promoted to the active roster if Boswell could not go on Monday. The team has until early Monday afternoon to promote Boswell to the roster for him to be eligible for the game.
Fantasy impact: Chris Boswell (hip)
Boswell ranks 14th among fantasy kickers and is a steady if unspectacular presence with a solid Steelers offense. He’s scored 7 or more points in all but two games this season, but has only two games of double digits scoring. Washington’s defense is hit or miss so there is some value in the matchup.
Cutting Boswell for another kicker isn’t the worst idea in the world given the hip injury. If you really want to keep him, you can either prepare to add Wright on game day, or one of the remaining Bills, 49ers, Ravens, or Cowboys kickers who are playing Monday or Tuesday. Of those, Robbie Gould and Greg Zuerlein are the most likely to be available.
