Final update: Flowers didn’t throw a single pass in the fourth quarter, as he was overtaken by Cornelius in the final frame. He finished with 43 passing yards and 15 rushing yards. Cornelius went on to finish 16-of-27 for 154 yards. He throw an interception on the final play of the game as the Vipers fell to the Dragons 14-9. Silvers missed on both of his fourth quarter passing attempts and finished 7-of-18 for 91 yards. His team managed to extend its lead with a field goal and held on to it by stopping the Tampa Bay’s final heave to the end zone.

Third quarter update: We saw a huge change of momentum in the third quarter. Brandon Silvers threw a pick-six early in the quarter that had Tampa Bay up 9-0. A couple players later, Silvers found Keenan Reynolds deep for a 68-yard touchdown. Silvers ended the quarter 7-of-16 for 91 yards with a touchdown and interception. Quinton Flowers replaced Tyler Cornelius once again at quarterback, but threw a pick six on an attempted screen pass and Seattle takes a 14-9 lead into the fourth quarter. We saw Marc Trestman make a couple changes at quarterback in the quarter. Cornelius is 9-of-13 for 76 yards with an interception, while Flowers is 3-of-7 for 43 yards.

Halftime update: Tampa Bay is struggling with their quarterback situation. After Quinton Flowers took the sack to close out his first drive, he was benched for Tyler Cornelius. It has been some ugly football, but in three drives in the second quarter, Cornelius has QB’d the Vipers to a field goal. Cornelius finished the first half 5-of-9 for 42 yards with one interception. Flowers was 3-of-4 for 18 yards with ten rushing yards. On the other side, Brandon Silvers is having a rough go of it, completing 5-of-11 passes for 12 yards. This has been some brutal football as Tampa Bay leads 3-0 after one half of play.

The Seattle Dragons are hosting the Tampa Bay Vipers in Week 2 of the XFL, and we have what might prove to be our most significant quarterback benching of the weekend. The Vipers started Tyler Cornelius in place of an injured (and ineffective) Aaron Murray, and it took less than a quarter to decide he was not the answer. The team benched Cornelius in the first quarter after he completed one of five passes for seven yards and an interception, and replaced him with local product Quinton Flowers.

Flowers completed three of his first four passes for 18 yards, but has not been able to get the Vipers into the end zone. He took a nine-yard sack on a 4th and 7 attempt. Meanwhile, Brandon Silvers completed one of five passes for six yards, while taking a two-yard sack.

If you bet the under, you’re in good shape for the time being. Flowers seems more likely to break out in this game, but for the time being, it’s not pretty.
