Matt McGloin rips offense at halftime, benched in fourth quarter

The New York Guardians offense was a mess in Week 2 and Matt McGloin voiced his displeasure.

Saturday was a rough day for New York Guardians quarterback Matt McGloin. He completed only 8 of 19 passes for 44 yards and threw two interceptions, including a pick-six early in the third quarter that all but ended New York’s chances at a comeback.

McGloin was benched in the fourth quarter for Marquise Williams, and his displeasure with the offense leading up to that might keep him on the bench for the near future. Heading into the locker at halftime, McGloin ripped the offense saying they needed a whole new game plan.

Head coach and offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride could not have been too happy with that. He did not bench the QB right away, but he has a decision to make this coming week. In Week 1, McGloin completed 15 of 29 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown. It wasn’t a great game, but it was solid enough to help New York beat Tampa Bay.

DC might have the best defense in the league, but with only a ten-week schedule on the season, teams will need to make quick decisions to avoid falling into a hole. New York is now 1-1 and will be rooting for Houston to beat St. Louis. New York and St. Louis square off next week with second place potentially on the line in the East division. We’ll see if McGloin is able to return to the lineup or if Williams gets a chance to build on his Week 2 appearance.
