The Houston Roughnecks defeated the St. Louis BattleHawks 28-24 on Sunday to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Roughnecks were an eight point favorite in this one, and the point total ranged between 47.5 and 50 points depending on when you jumped on it. This ended up going over regardless of what you bought in at.
Houston quarterback P.J. Walker shined for a second straight week, throwing for 170 yards and three touchdowns. He has now thrown for seven touchdowns to just one interception in two weeks. Walker found receiver Cam Phillips for all three touchdowns, and Phillips now has four on the season, to go along with 12 total receptions and 130 receiving yards.
Walker is likely the front-runner for the MVP award two weeks in, a notch ahead of DC quarterback Cardale Jones. However, St. Louis quarterback Jordan Ta’amu had a decent performance in his own right. Ta’amu threw for 284 yards, with three touchdowns and two interceptions. De’Mornay Pierson-El led the BattleHawks with nine receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown, while L’Damian Washington added six receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown.
With the win, Houston is in first place in the XFL West, a game up on the Seattle Dragons. St. Louis dropped to 1-1 and is tied for second with the New York Guardians behind the DC Defenders in the XFL East.
