DC, Houston lead the way in the XFL through two weeks

We’ve got two teams standing out in the XFL, and one team to keep an eye on heading into Week 3.

The XFL wrapped up Week 2 on Sunday, and it would appear we have two standout teams for the time being. The DC Defenders and Houston Roughnecks won this weekend to improve to 2-0. They sit in the XFL East and West, respectively.

The Defenders shut out the New York Guardians 27-0 and right now look like the most complete team in the league. Cardale Jones threw for 276 yards with two touchdowns and an interception that came on a multi-tipped pass. The defense sacked Matt McGloin three times and picked him off twice. They also held Tim Cook to 39 yards on ten carries.

The Roughnecks impressed on offense in beating St. Louis 28-24. P.J. Walker is looking like the best quarterback in the league, throwing for seven touchdowns to only one interception through the first two weeks. He found Cam Phillips three times in the end zone in Week 2, and Phillips now has four touchdowns on the season.

The 1-1 team to watch is the Dallas Renegades. Quarterback Landry Jones made his debut after not playing in the team’s first game with a knee injury. He threw for 305 yards, and while he had two interceptions to one touchdown in Week 2, he showed some of the upside to the Air Raid offense. The Dallas defense isn’t great, but if Jones can build on Week 1, this offense could be one of the better in the league.

The biggest disappointment through two weeks has to be Tampa Bay. Expectations were high for the Marc Trestman-led squad, but they’ve been the worst offense out of the gate, with only one offensive touchdown. The next closest teams are New York and Dallas with three offensive touchdowns.
