The Kansas City Chiefs return to the Championship round in Super 54 against the San Francisco 49ers. The Chiefs have sported one of the most electric offenses in the NFL this season (and last season), thanks mostly to coach Andy Reid, QB Patrick Mahomes and all-world TE Travis Kelce. The 30-year-old TE put together another All-Pro season, finishing with 1,229 yards on 97 receptions with five TDs in 16 games.
Kelce has been a mixed bag in two playoff games. In the comeback win over the Houston Texans, the Chiefs TE killed it with 10 catches for 134 yards and three TDs. In the AFC Championship, we saw KC use a more balanced approach while not trailing by three TDs. Kelce only saw four targets and caught three passes for 30 yards against the Tennessee Titans. I think Kelce will be much more involved in the game plan in SB54 and if it’s a shootout (like many predict), then he should see a good majority of the targets from Mahomes.
Super Bowl 54 first quarter recap
Kelce saw two targets in the first quarter, catching both targets for 20 receiving yards. Kelce did not record a red zone target. Kelce finished the first quarter with 4.00 DraftKings fantasy points (DKFP).
Super Bowl 54 second quarter recap
Kelce was not targeted in the second quarter and did not add to his first quarter stats. Kelce went into halftime with 4.00 DKFP, catching 2-of-2 targets for 20 receiving yards.
Super Bowl 54 third quarter recap
Kelce had three touches in the third quarter, catching two passes for 13 yards. None of Kelce’s targets were in the red zone in the third quarter. Kelce also took a direct snap to rush for two yards. Kelce heads into the fourth quarter with 7.50 DKFP, catching 4-of-4 targets for 33 receiving yards while adding two rushing yards on one carry.
Super Bowl 54 fourth quarter recap
Kelce scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter, hitting the anytime TD score (-125). Kelce finished the game catching all six of his targets for 43 receiving yards and a touchdown, which put him OVER 5.5 total receptions but UNDER 74.5 total receiving yards. Kelce’s longest catch was 11 yards, UNDER the longest reception of 22.5 yards. Tyreek Hill caught the first pass for the Chiefs and led the Chiefs in total receiving yards with 105 and longest catch at 44 yards, so Kelce failed to hit on first Chiefs reception (+225), most receiving yards (+350) and player to have the longest reception (+700). Kelce finished the game with 16.50 DKFP, leading tight ends in the game and ranking fourth among all players in the game in fantasy scoring.
