The Kansas City Chiefs did not have LeSean McCoy active for Super 54 against the San Francisco 49ers. This has been the case for most of the postseason, as McCoy has recorded just one total snap, so the Chiefs will operate with a backfield featuring mostly Damien Williams. The 27-year-old has had a solid 2019 playoffs so far, scoring a total of four TDs with 92 rushing yards on 29 attempts. He’s also added seven receptions for 65 yards.
The 49ers have one of the toughest run defenses in the NFL. They also have one of the best defenses overall, so this is going to be a big test for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense. Williams may not be able to get much going on the ground, but in any case, he’ll be very involved in the offense. His ability to catch passes and make big plays out of the backfield will have him in on most snaps through the game. It also helps that this isn’t a time-share backfield like San Fran, which should feature Raheem Mostert, Matt Breida and Tevin Coleman.
