UPDATE: Tails did not fail. The 49ers picked tails and won the coin toss.
You can find a way to handicap basically every possible bet on Super Bowl 54. Will the offenses go big? How many turnovers will we see? Can Jimmy Garoppolo and Patrick Mahomes hit their over numbers passing? But there’s one specific bet that can only be scored by the cliché you’ve used since you were a child on the playground:
“Tails never fails.”
For those of you that would wager on whose luggage will hit the carousel first at the airport and other various things, there is the coin toss. And our friends at DraftKings sportsbook have some odds for you:
As can be expected, most people are indeed taking tails because of the the phrase we all know is true. Tails doesn’t really ever fail, in fact foolishly calling heads cost the 1979 Chicago Bulls the chance to draft Magic Johnson in one of the most consequential coin flips in sports history. If Rod Thorn had merely done what children across the world know is always the correct decision, there would have been no Showtime Lakers dynasty.
For the contrarians out there, we can tell you there’s no better price on either side. But you’re probably the kind of people that bet on don’t pass during a craps game. What is wrong with you? Look deeply inside yourself and find why your heart isn’t whole. Don’t bet on the coin toss!
We’ll be rooting for those of you on the right side of history, which is 52% of the bets and 53% of the handle so far today. And against the co-host of America’s highest-rated sports talk radio program.
