Preseason odds for NFL teams is a good way to look back to see expectations for the season and start to understand where things went wrong or right. Below, we will take a look at DraftKings Sportsbook’s preseason odds for win totals, division titles, player props and more while we discuss what led to their triumphs or disappointments.
Team Futures
Super Bowl: +10000
AFC East: +1000 (finished second)
Win Total Over/Under: 6.5 (finished 10-6)
The Buffalo Bills were considered long shots to win a title this year, but got much closer than most expected. They lost a close game to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card round, but took a big step forward in 2019. They blew away their over/under of on projected wins (6.5) and finished with their first 10-win season since 1999. Buffalo had the second best odds to win the AFC East and finished behind the New England Patriots. It seems primed to begin a new era fueled by young players with tons of potential.
Player Props
Josh Allen passing yards: 3,300.5 (finished with 3,089)
Josh Allen passing TDs: 18.5 (finished with 20)
Devin Singletary OROY: +3300 (added after Week 10)
Ed Oliver DROY: +1200
Josh Allen showed significant improvement as a passer in his sophomore season. His topped his rookie passing yardage by more than 1,000 yards and doubled his rookie passing touchdown total while throwing three fewer interceptions. Some of his improvement is owed to the Bills’ upgraded receiving corps, as John Brown and Cole Beasley were added to the team over the offseason, but the running game also got a boost. Rookie running back Devin Singletary emerged as Buffalo’s feature back after LeSean McCoy was cut, which helped create a more balanced offense.
The Bills also got a stud rookie on the defensive end in 2019 first-round pick Ed Oliver, who was phenomenal on the defensive line. He was a key piece for a Buffalo defense that was top 10 against the run and pass. The Bills have the building blocks to be great, but have to continue developing their talent to get there. The New England Patriots’ run at the top of the division could be nearing an end.
