Best lineup strategy for Bucks vs. Pistons NBA Showdown

We’re back from the All-Star break, going over how to craft a winning lineup for Thursday night’s featured DraftKings Showdown between MIL-DET.

Welcome back from the All-Star Break! We’ve got six games on the slate in the NBA on Thursday night and a few Showdown contests on DraftKings to choose from here. The earliest of the bunch features the No. 1 overall seed Milwaukee Bucks and MVP frontrunner Giannis Antetokounmpo taking on the Detroit Pistons. Here we’ll go over some lineup strategy and picks for the Showdown on DraftKings, including which player to Captain and where to find value.

Who should you play at the Captain’s spot?

Giannis Antetokounmpo ($19,200)

There are a few ways to go about this lineup. We can stack the Bucks and get Giannis in the Captain spot, the player with the highest ceiling in the game. He should be extra fresh after the break and having missed two games prior after the birth of his child. I think at the least we need to fit in Giannis and Khris Middleton ($9,800). If you want to save some salary, Derrick Rose ($11,100) should be 100% after the break and his price is down given the lack of scoring for the Pistons. Detroit recently waived Reggie Jackson, so D-Rose should get back into the starting lineup tonight. His ceiling is high and we can fit in a bit more with Giannis and Middleton at UTIL.

Who should I stack with Giannis?

Khris Middleton ($9,800)

As I mentioned, Middleton is my favorite option here. The Pistons don’t have great wing defenders, so Middleton and Giannis should get whatever they want really. In the past eight games before the break, Middleton averaged 25.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.4 assists while shooting over 50% from the field and 3-point range. This was mostly with Giannis out of the lineup, but those numbers were enough to carry the team. This is a very appealing matchup, so I view Middleton and Giannis as locks.

Where can I find value?

Svi Mykhailiuk ($2,200)

Svi came back prior to the break after missing five games due to a hip injury. He should be 100% — like Rose — plus coach Dwane Casey mentioned that Mykhailiuk could play some point guard now that Jackson is out of town. If we look at Svi’s box score before the injury, he was seeing anywhere from 25-35 minutes. The Bucks are a tough defensive team, but the Pistons G should see plenty of looks and at this price, doesn’t need to get us more than say 15-20 fantasy points to return big value.

Who should I fade?

Christian Wood ($8,600)

This is a bit risky because I think outside of Rose, Wood is the player on the Pistons with the most pop. But the Bucks are a great defensive unit and Giannis should be able to bottle up Wood down low. I also think there will be more emphasis on Rose and Bruce Brown ($6,400) getting some more offensive usage with Jackson gone. Really it’s the matchup that scares me for Wood, plus this price is pretty high. It’ll be tough to fit Giannis, Middleton and Wood into an effective lineup tonight.
