The XFL is back for Week 3, and the point spreads are starting to grow. The early stretch of a new league is hard to handicap, and we’ve seen numbers swinging back and forth as teams show they’re either better (St. Louis) or worse (Tampa Bay) than expected.
This week, St. Louis is finally getting some serious love from oddsmakers, installed as a ten point home favorite against New York. They’re the biggest favorites of the weekend, followed by DC as an 8.5-point road favorite against Los Angeles.
While St. Louis is a big favorite, the betting public is not quite prepared to back them yet at that kind of number. 61 percent of the handle and 63 percent of total bets on the NY-STL are on New York to cover.
It’s notable that for total bets on each game, the road team is getting the higher percentage across the board. The biggest split is Houston, which is getting 89 percent of bets as a 6.5-point road favorite. The lowest split is Dallas, which is getting 61 percent of bets as a five-point road favorite.
Three of the four road teams are getting the bulk of the handle as well, but Los Angeles is the one home team at +8.5 getting a majority of the handle (54 percent).
