Joey Logano wins Pennzoil 400, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. pays big for third place

With a caution for the last lap, Logano’s choice not to pit with six to go turns out to prove wise as he repeats at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

The man with the Pennzoil-adorned car had to feel extra special today, as Joey Logano was the victor in the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway today.

When Ross Chastain spun out with six laps to go, the 23 drivers on the lead lap had to decide whether to pit and get new tires, or stay out and take the extra position on the track. Logano rolled the dice and stayed out, and it paid off as he got a push from Ricky Stenhouse Jr. to stay in the lead as the caution came out for the last lap.

Logano won this race last year, and was a +800 choice to win before the race started.

The best gambling win on the board today would have been those that chose Ricky Stenhouse Jr. to finish in the Top 3: his +5000 odds for a result on the podium paid handsomely for those that backed the #47 Kroger car. The #21 of Matt DiBenedetto was second, and he paid +1000 for a Top 3 finish.

With the win, combined with his 13th place at the Daytona 500 last week, Logano moves into second in the points standings behind Ryan Blaney. Last week’s winner Kevin Harvick is third,

Next week all drivers are heading to Fontana, California for the Auto Club 400, with the green flag dropping at 3:30 p.m. on Fox.
