Trae Young available to play Friday vs. Nets [UPDATE]

Hawks PG battled through the flu to drop 37 points on Wednesday night. We break down his fantasy outlook for Friday against Brooklyn.

UPDATE: Feb. 28, 11:57 a.m. — Young is available to play vs. the Nets. Along with Giannis, Young is among the only players priced above $10K for Friday’s DFS slate on DraftKings. It didn’t look like the illness held Young back the other night against the Magic. So there’s not reason for us to be worried about Young against Brooklyn. He’s fine to roll out in season-long and as a GPP play.

UPDATE: Feb. 27, 5:33 p.m. — Young is being listed as questionable again for Friday’s game vs. the Brooklyn Nets due to flu-like symptoms.

UPDATE, ATL-ORL Recap: The game is over. The Hawks lost by double-digits and Young ($10,400) had a big fantasy game, so the sickness didn’t appear to change the normal flow of a Hawks’ game. Young had a double-double to along with 37 points and a game-high 62.5 DKFP. Defense continues to be a huge issue for Young and the Hawks. He ranks last in the league in Defensive Real Plus-Minus and Atlanta surrendered 130 points tonight. If this team is going to take a step forward next season, becoming competent on defense is a must.

UPDATE: Feb, 26, 6:24 p.m. — Young is available to play. So that takes away from appeal from value plays like Teague and Reddish. Collins is still an OK GPP play with Dedmon out. I also like the Hawks to hang around in this game, so I’d check out the spread and with the Hawks +2.5 at home vs. Orlando.

UPDATE: Feb. 26, 5:45 p.m. — Young has been upgraded to probable vs. the Magic. So that’s an indication that he’ll likely be fine to play. It’s unclear how bad the illness is, so we may need to monitor Young for a possible minutes restriction.

Dewayne Dedmon is out for this game, so there’s your upgrade for Collins. I pegged Collins as a solid GPP play if Young were to sit. With Dedmon out, the Hawks are lacking front court bodies big time. It’s also put the Magic bigs in a good spot, so that’s Nikola Vucevic and Aaron Gordon.

Atlanta Hawks PG Trae Young is questionable to play Wednesday vs. the Orlando Magic due to flu-like symptoms. Young has been one of the hottest scorers in the NBA since the New Year. If the Hawks are without their All-Star PG, things could get ugly against the Magic and it would impact fantasy basketball lineups and bets on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Fantasy basketball and betting analysis: Trae Young illness

Taking a look at the prices on DraftKings, there are a few plays that would open up if Young is out. Jeff Teague ($3,300) could draw the start and see some more run. I’d expect Cam Reddish ($4,500) to be very chalky if Trae is out. Reddish had played at least 36 minutes in back-to-back games before the Hawks were blown out by Philly on Monday. My guess is Reddish would see 30+ minutes in a lineup without Trae.

As for Sportsbook, well the line right now is Magic -2 so I’d get on that if I were you. The illness could hold Young back even if he plays — though I’d fear a “Flu game” situation. Even so, Orlando at just -2 seems like an OK bet before the Young news. It was only a few games ago the Magic beat the Hawks 135-126 with Young healthy.
