UPDATE: Feb, 26, 5:50 p.m. — Thompson will start in place of Drummond at center vs. the Sixers. So that’s a big upgrade for Tristan, who is pretty cheap at $5,300 on DraftKings. It’s a tough draw vs. Embiid and Horford down low, but I still think it’s a decent spot for the Cavaliers. Philly isn’t a strong road team and they’re down Simmons, who is a plus defender.
Cleveland Cavaliers C Andre Drummond is listed as out for Wednesday night’s game vs. the Philadelphia 76ers. Drummond reportedly wasn’t in the big man shooting group after shootaround this morning and will not play. He has a strained calf. Since being acquired from the Detroit Pistons, Drummond is averaging 12.8 points and 10.4 rebounds over five games with the Cavaliers. He’s only playing around 24.3 minutes per game in Cleveland, well below his 33.7 average while in Detroit.
Fantasy basketball and betting analysis: Andre Drummond injury
With Drummond out, we could see either Tristan Thompson ($5,300) or Larry Nance Jr. ($5,900) jump into the starting lineup. Thompson is the likely choice, slotting in at center next to Kevin Love ($7,300). Both payers get a little bit of a boost with Drummond out, as well as Love, who becomes an OK GPP play. Overall, it’s not a great matchup for the Cavaliers big men against Al Horford and Joel Embiid.
The spread right now on DraftKings Sportsbook is Sixers -7.5, so I’d get on that now before the line gets taken down or starts to move in Philly’s favor. Even without Ben Simmons, the Sixers are a much better team than Cleveland and more than capable of covering that spread. Now with Drummond out, it’s even more likely. The O/U is at 216.5, which is really low. I see some value in the OVER now that Drummond isn’t patrolling the paint for Cleveland. It could open up things for Embiid, Horford and Tobias Harris at the basket.
