1917 leads odds for Best Picture Oscar

The biggest night in Hollywood is Sunday, February 9th, as the 92nd Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will honor the best in cinema, but all members of the academy and affiliated unions can vote for Best Picture. There are nine films nominated, with the betting lines moving towards the World War I saga 1917.

The film directed, co-written, and produced by Sam Mendes has been racking up the hardware during awards season, including the most common predictors of statuette success via the Golden Globe for Best Picture - Drama and the BAFTA, as well as the accompanying awards for Best Director.

But with Academy voting, you just never know. Remember La La Land... er, Moonlight as the unexpected winner in 2017? Or Crash stunning the crowd in 2006 by beating out Brokeback Mountain and Good Night and Good Luck?

Anything can happen on Oscar Night, and often does. Could a dark horse come out of somewhere and upset the favorite? Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is falling on the board, but it is the first chance for the Academy to honor Quentin Tarantino, a well-known cinephile and someone that appeals to the older voting demographic, with an award.
