Best lineup strategy for Hornets vs. Rockets NBA Showdown

We break down how to craft a winning lineup for Tuesday night’s featured Showdown between Charlotte and Houston on DraftKings.

The NBA Trade Deadline is approaching and Clint Capela’s name has been floating around again. The Rockets are reportedly looking to deal Capela to add depth, and while it may be the best thing short-term, it may not pan out so well long-term. Capela is dealing with a heel injury right now, so he’s listed as out for Tuesday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets in Houston. Russell Westbrook is the other name to look out for, the All-Star entering Tuesday doubtful to play due to a thumb injury. This could leave the Rockets with an old school James Harden Show type of atmosphere tonight. Let’s take a look at prices.

Who should you play at Captain?

James Harden ($20,700)

This will likely be the easiest pick you make all day. If Russ and Cap are both out, Harden hero ball is in full force tonight. The spread is really high, but given the Rockets lack of depth, I could see Charlotte hanging around a bit. A more competitive game means more minutes and shots for Harden. He’s somewhat finding his stroke, shooting 13-for-29 from 3-point range the past two games (hey, it’s better than shooting below 20%). I also think Harden’s usage gets around 40%; Harden rarely gets less than 60 fantasy points when his usage is 40% or higher.

Who should you stack with Harden?

Eric Gordon ($7,600)

Considering the Hornets have been one of the worst defensive teams all season and have lost 11 of 12 games, I think stacking shooters makes the most sense. We’re going to load up on Gordon and Harden, both very likely making up the majority of the Rockets offense tonight. Gordon has been quiet since that 50-point outburst, but this is the type of game environment we could see Gordon pop in.

Where can I find value in the contest?

PJ Tucker ($6,000)

Tucker will always be a trendy value when Capela is out, just because the Rockets don’t have front court depth. Tucker will be forced to play center tonight with Capela and Russ likely sidelined. He’ll need to play close to 40 minutes and considering how awful the Hornets are on defense, could actually score in double figures for once. Even if Tucker doesn’t score much (which is normal), his rebounding and assist totals should help him return value.

Who should I fade?

Miles Bridges ($8,000)

Bridges has put together a nice stretch of games, scoring at least 23 points in two of the past three. I think his price is just way too high given the type of floor he has. Bridges has had games in which he doesn’t crack 20 minutes and fails to reach value by a wide margin. Because of that volatility, I don’t like paying this much for him. It’s tough to fit him in anyway given we need to play Harden. Plus, both Terry Rozier ($8,800) and Devonte’ Graham ($9,200) aren’t too far off in price and are much more appealing plays.
