Breaking down the notable names on the L.A. Wildcats XFL roster

Get to know the XFL’s L.A. Wildcats roster.

The Wildcats are coached by Winston Moss, who specializes in defense, as he has worked for the Seahawks, Saints and Packers in defense quality control and as a linebackers coach. His offensive coordinator, Norm Chow, should have complete control of the offense.

Chow has coached in the college ranks since the 70s and had a three-year stint as the offensive coordinator of the Titans from 2005-2007. Chow is 73 years old and hasn’t coached in college since his last season as head coach at Hawaii in 2015. His offenses have been high flying at BYU and put up big numbers at USC, but with Tennessee, they were more run-oriented.

There are plenty of interesting names on the Wildcats, including a few NFL players you will recognize.

Josh Johnson, QB, (Washington)

Johnson has spent seven seasons in the NFL with the Buccaneers, Browns, 49ers and Washington, including many other teams in which he didn’t make the final roster. His experience is vast and his rushing ability makes him a threat on the ground and through the air. He’s no spring chicken at 33-years-old but his experience should push him into being one of the top quarterbacks in the league.

Elijah Hood, RB, (Carolina Panthers)

We don’t have a clear pecking order for the Wildcats running back depth chart yet, but Hood’s size will likely push him toward being the early down back while DuJuan Harris should serve as the receiving back. Hood spent three seasons shuffling around the NFL before landing in the XFL. His bruising style along with Josh Johnson’s threat to run, should help him in Norm Chow’s offense.

Tre McBride, WR, (Chicago Bears)

McBride will be one of the fastest receivers in the XFL with a 4.41 40 time. And if he returns kicks, he should have a lot of success with the new rules that favor returners. McBride is more of a deep threat than a possession receiver, so his statistics could be inconsistent, but he has a ton of big play ability.
