Tristan Thompson has spent his entire nine-year career with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Come next week, he could be wearing a different uniform for the first time. He’s in the last year of his contract and it doesn’t make a ton of sense for the Cavs to hold him when they are clearly building for the future.
Will Tristan Thompson get traded before the deadline?
Predicting trades is always a difficult task. With that said, there aren’t any players I am more confident in getting moved at the deadline than Thompson. He’s a veteran with playoff experience and there isn’t a long term commitment required to take on his contract. On top of this, the Cavalier don’t have a need for him either. This is a young team heading towards picking high in the draft. Cleveland will almost certainly ship off Thompson to the highest bidder, which likely won’t be a steep price. A late draft pick or a young player with upside should be enough to get a deal completed. The Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors are all teams that have been tied to Thompson.
Prediction: He gone.
