The New York Giants received a ton of criticism for drafting Daniel Jones early in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, but it looks like a decent choice now. They weren’t expected to do much after shipping off Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns and letting Landon Collins walk in the offseason. The season was basically way for the team’s young core to feel things out. Eli Manning was relegated to the bench and replaced by the rookie early in the year to make way for the future. Jones fell just short of his predicted passing yards total but exceeded the touchdown pass projections while playing in 13 games. How he combines with running back Saquon Barkley could set the tone for the next decade.
Barkley played in 13 games as well and didn’t hit the over on his rushing yards or rushing touchdowns prop bets. His season was hampered by injuries, but he flashed his special talent on multiple occasions this season. The Giants just need to get all their most important pieces healthy at the same time.
Jones, Barkley, Evan Engram, Sterling Shepard, Golden Tate, and Darius Slayton weren’t all on the field at the same time once in 2019, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. Getting healthy and gaining experience should help New York become more competitive against NFC East frontrunners like the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.
