Former Temple Owl P.J. Walker beat out Connor Cook to become the starting quarterback for the Houston Roughnecks. Cook was drafted by the Roughnecks in the first round, but the former Raider wasn’t able to beat out Walker.
Houston head coach June Jones is a Run N’ Shoot guru, who should get his team passing the ball early and often. Walker put up decent numbers under coach Matt Rhule at Temple, but wasn’t efficient. We will likely see that inefficiency exacerbated with the heavy passing offense, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be useful for fantasy.
And, with such a new team, Walker will likely be on a short leash with Cook waiting in the wings. But, whoever ends up getting the most work should have plenty of help from a strong group of receivers, highlighted by Sammie Coates and Kahlil Lewis.
