Fantasy basketball impact: Andrew Wiggins trade to Warriors

The Timberwolves made a huge move, acquiring D’Angelo Russell from the Warriors. Wiggins was sent out to Golden State and we look at how this will impact him in fantasy.

Teams just don’t believe in Andrew Wiggins. Well, maybe that’s not the entire story, but this is the second time that Wiggins has been dealt in his career. Now, he’ll be thrilled to be joining the Warriors, right? The answer is of course. While the Warriors aren’t the same team currently, it won’t be long before they’re at full strength again with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Golden State will bring in Wiggins to mesh with its core and chase another title next season.

Wiggins has shown flashes of massive upside this season, averaging 22.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. His shooting splits leave much to be desired —44.4/33.1/72 — but those figures could improve once we see Wiggins with Steph and Klay. For now, let’s focus on his fantasy basketball outlook the rest of the season.

Fantasy basketball analysis: Andrew Wiggins trade to Warriors

Like I mentioned, Wiggins shooting splits are weak and his overall effectiveness on offense has been lacking most of the season. This could be the result of trade rumors and being on a poor basketball team in the T-Wolves. The Warriors aren’t much better, but we should expect Stephen Curry to return to the lineup in March. Once that happens, we could see Wiggins take off, getting less attention on defense and more open looks on offense. The Dubs have lacked a wing scorer since Kevin Durant bolted in free agency and Wiggins should provide that in some capacity. While Curry is out, Wiggins should be the go-to scorer for the Warriors, so I’d say his fantasy value gets a nice bump with this trade.
