Quarterback rankings for XFL Week 1

We take you through some of the best quarterbacks going into Week 1 of the XFL for fantasy football.

Minnesota v Ohio State

Seattle vs. DC update: The first game started slow but has picked up some steam with both secondaries looking pretty brutal. Midway through the third quarter, Seattle QB Brandon Silvers has thrown three touchdowns to one interception with 153 yards. DC QB Cardale Jones has thrown for 156 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 33 yards.

Welcome to the XFL quarterback rankings for Week 1. As with any Week 1 of any league, we are flying blind, but with a new league like the XFL, we are falling blind. But, we do have enough to go by to tentatively rank players. The Week 1 depth chart, injury report, offensive play-calling tendencies and quarterback experience and skill level, give us some clues. How teams and players gel offensively and defensively is something we will need to wait to see.

The two biggest questions we have at the quarterback position this weekend involve two of the best quarterbacks in the eight-team league. Josh Johnson hasn’t practiced this week and Landry Jones has been limited the last two days. We don’t know for sure who Johnson’s backup will be between Jalan McClendon and Chad Kanoff yet but Phillip Nelson would get the start if Jones can’t go.

My rankings below mostly coincide with players I think can put up good numbers in offenses that should benefit quarterbacks. Cardale Jones leads my list, as he has a strong coach in Pep Hamilton, good receivers and faces the team slated to finish last according to the odds.

I like Houston and Dallas to be the most pass-happy and if Landry Jones ends up playing, he shoots up the rankings fast. Phillip Walker won the job in Houston and his team is the clear favorite at home in what looks like will be a big crowd.

Matt McGloin should be a steady presence running Kevin Gilbride’s offense and he has a big receiver in Mekale McKay to attack the Tampa Bay defense. McGloin wasn’t awful in his stint in the NFL and his veteran presence should help stabilize a team thrown together.

Marc Trestman might not be the best coach ever, but he does help his teams put up offense and he will throw the ball a ton. Aaron Murray should be able to see enough work to put together fantasy value.
