The NFL wrapped up last weekend with a thrilling Super Bowl 54, but football is back in a new form this weekend. On Saturday, February 8th, the XFL debuts on national television. We’ll get two games on Saturday and two games on Sunday for a league offering rule changes they hope will make for a more exciting product.
The XFL debuts with the DC Defenders hosting the Seattle Dragons at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The game kicks off at 2:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast nationally on ABC. If you are not in front of a television, you can stream the game via the ESPN Sports App).
This game features a host of notable names on both teams. DC will trot out former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones and running back Donnel Pumphrey, while Seattle will start Brandon Silvers, who beat out former Seahawks reserve B.J. Daniels, and running back Kenneth Farrow.
It’s hard to assess what each team will do, particularly on defense. We know that DC coach Pep Hamilton will bring a pass-heavy offense similar to his time in Indianapolis, while Seattle coach Jim Zorn could be a little more run-heavy while the team gets comfortable.
The matchup features the highest point spread of the weekend, with DC favored by 7.5 points. They have the fourth best championship odds, while Seattle has the worst odds of all eight XFL teams.
