A week ago, the odds at Draftkings Sportsbook suggested that Giannis Antetokounmpo was running away with the MVP. After big wins for the Los Angeles Lakers over the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers over the weekend, the narrative is that LeBron James is narrowing the gap.

Can LeBron win the fifth MVP of his career?
As of late, the media is certainly pushing the narrative. Even so, the odds strongly favor the Greek Freak. Giannis is priced at -560 to win MVP for the second consecutive year, while James sits at +450. Statistically, almost all the arguments favor Antetokounmpo to win the award. He is comfortably ranked ahead of James in RPM, Win Shares, PIPM and Box Score Plus-Minus. When looking at the entire season, it’s pretty clear to me that Giannis has been the more valuable of the two superstars. The talk of LeBron winning MVP reeks of recency bias. He had a great week, but Antetokounmpo is having a great season.
