Houston is the clear team to beat heading into Week 6

The Houston Roughnecks is running away with the XFL West. We break down where championship odds sit heading into Week 6.

The XFL is halfway through its 2020 regular season, and the Houston Roughnecks remain the only undefeated team in the league. Houston came back from a 14-0 deficit and as 23-14 to defeat Seattle in Week 5. Houston benefited from a bad officiating mistake, but a win is a win.

DraftKings Sportsbook released their latest XFL Championship odds, and Houston inched a little closer to even money. They entered Week 5 at +175 and now sit at +160. They moved into favored status after Week 3 and are showing no sign of slowing down. They face the 3-2 New York Guardians in Week 6, and given the Guardians improved play with Luis Perez at quarterback, it provides another helpful challenge.

Things get a little murky from there. The St. Louis BattleHawks still hold the second best odds, but they slipped after a loss to DC. The XFL East has three teams tied at 3-2. St. Louis retains the lead based on touchdown differential, followed by New York, and then DC, but plenty could change over the second half of the season.

This weekend, DC hosts Dallas, New York hosts Houston, and St. Louis travels to Tampa Bay. DC at +650 and New York at +750 both offer some intriguing value at this point. Two teams from each division make the playoffs, and we know a short playoff opens the door to plenty of upsets. Houston is worth a wager given how they’ve rolled along to date, but the value might be in a DC or New York.
