After today’s action, every conference except for three will have begun their postseason. We are just four days from Selection Sunday, and the best tournament in sports.
Tonight we’ll take a look at the matchup and spreads for each game tonight, and give you a bit of context for some of the biggest games.
The Good Game
Patriot League Final
No. 2 Boston University Terriers vs. No. 1 Colgate Raiders
Should be a lot of fun as well as good basketball. Colgate was the class of the Patriot this season, and they’re the most efficient offensive team in the league. BU has been up and down of late, but Max Mahoney is one of the best front court players in the conference. Jordan Burns might be the best guard, so we’ll see them do battle in upstate New York on Colgate’s Cotterell Court.
The Potential Sleepers Games
Big East Opening Round
No. 9 Georgetown Hoyas vs. No. 8 St. John’s Red Storm
Oh how the mighty have fallen. Both of these teams just had too many injuries and weird luck to compete in a really tough Big East this year. But this game should make for a compelling matchup, especially if Mac McClung and Omer Yurtseven of Georgetown give it a go. They’ve been hurt most of February, but the Hoyas can play with anyone with them. Will the MSG magic run through them like it did for their coach Patrick Ewing as a player? All we know is... Creighton doesn’t really want to play the winner on Thursday, because either of these teams will have a punchers chance.
Big 12 Opening Round
No. 10 Kansas State Wildcats vs. No. 7 TCU Horned Frogs
We’re not saying TCU is good... but we are saying they beat the team they’d face if they beat KSU, No. 2 Baylor, less than two weeks ago. And that was without a key contributor in RJ Nembhard. And the only thing falling faster then the stock market of late is the Baylor Bears. It’s certainly within the realm of possible... but they’ve got to get past the ‘Cats first.
The Don’t Blow It Games
Pac-12 Opening Round
No. 12 Washington Huskies vs. No. 5 Arizona Wildcats
The Wildcats a month ago were a lay-up top-four NCAA tournament seed. Now they’re having to play on opening day in T-Mobile Arena because they’re not a top-four seed in their mediocre conference. They’ve lost four of five, including to this same Washington dead-last Washington team AT HOME four days ago. Marie Antoinette didn’t fall from grace this quickly.
This isn’t the old days when “last 10 games” was an official factor for the selection committee, so the Wildcats are probably fine for a berth. But, I mean... another loss to the no-good-very-bad-dead-last Huskies? Seriously??
Here are the rest of the games from all of today’s action, including lines from DraftKings Sportsbook:
