There are only six games in the NBA for Wednesday night, a little below the amount we’re used to consuming mid-week. That’s OK though, since last night’s action was a bit nutty for everyone tracking the playoff races in each conference. Anyway, we’ve got six games to sift through for tonight’s slate on DraftKings, so let’s get after it with some value options.
UPDATE: Joel Embiid (shoulder) will return to the lineup vs. the Pistons. Bump for the Sixers defensively.
UPDATE: Kristaps Porzingis (rest) has been ruled out for tonight’s game vs. the Nuggets. See below for how to proceed with Maxi Kleber.
Thon Maker, PF/C, DET @ PHI ($3,100)
We need to consider a few things before rolling out Maker. 1) Is John Henson going to play? He was injured in the Pistons’ last game and has an ankle sprain and is expected to miss a week. 2) Is Joel Embiid going to play? The Sixers All-Star is questionable. If both those answers are “No” then we’re in business. Maker would likely start at center next to Christian Wood and could see around 25-30 minutes. For a big man, at this price, that’s basically hitting the lottery. Maker would almost be a lock for a double-double and worst-case scenario we get 17.5 DKFP like three days ago vs. the Knicks — which is still 5x value at $3,100.
Monte Morris, PG, DEN @ DAL ($3,900)
The Nuggets offense hasn’t been very good, but they could be in line for a big night vs. the Mavericks. Dallas is on the second end of a back-to-back and could rest a few guys — mainly Luka Doncic (wrist) and Kristaps Porzingis (knee). If that’s the case, the Mavs may not hang in this one long. What’s that mean everyone? Garbage time! My favorite time in NBA games. Post All-Star break, Morris is averaging 24.6 minutes per game and his per 36 minute marks are 14.2 points, 6.0 assists and 1.4 steals on average. With all of Dallas’ injuries, this seems like an easy spot to hit value for Morris.
Maxi Kleber, PF/C, DAL vs. DEN ($4,600)
If what I mentioned up in the Morris blurb stands true, Kleber could be the go-to guy down low for Dallas tonight. Even if Porzingis and Doncic both play, Kleber has been starting and seeing north of 30 minutes consistently. His usage and rebounding totals are generally low, but we get the ceiling increase with the injuries for Dallas. Monitor the news throughout the day and if either Doncic or Porzingis is ruled out, jump on Kleber for this price. He’s a good enough passer that if his usage is up, he could get 4-5 dimes, which increases his floor.
Tyler Herro, SG, MIA vs. CHA ($3,300)
The Heat are really the team to watch in the news today. Herro is questionable, Jimmy Butler and Kendrick Nunn are also questionable. The Miami back court can shift dramatically depending on who is in and who is out. If Herro returns and say one of Butler or Nunn is out, Herro may need to play 20+ minutes despite coming back from an ankle injury. It’s not the best matchup in the world, but Herro is nearly $2,000 cheaper than when he was healthy. All he would need to do is bang 2-3 3-pointers and we’re looking good for value.
