Though previously scheduled to run events without any fans in the stands, today NASCAR decided to not race this weekend or next at their scheduled events in the southeast due to coronavirus. The Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 scheduled for this weekend, and the Dixie Vodka 400 scheduled for next week in Miami, have been postponed.
“NASCAR has decided to postpone the race events at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend and Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend. We believe this decision is in the best interest of the safety and well-being of our fans, competitors, officials and everyone associated with our sport. We will continue to monitor this dynamic situation as we assess future race events.”
The racing series joins all the major professional sports that are in-season, as well as several other touring sports such as the PGA TOUR, in cancelling or postponing events due to Covid-19. The NCAA Tournament, as well as all other winter and springs sports sponsored by the NCAA, have been cancelled as well.
Brad Keselowski was the winner of last year’s Folds of 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
