The Democratic primary race is down to two candidates. Tulsi Gabbard has not dropped out, but this race is effectively between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders. The two men will take the debate stage once again on March 15th in advance of four more primaries on Tuesday March 17th. Arizona, Florida, Illinois, and Ohio will push us closer to the nomination, and Sunday will give both candidates one more chance to make an impression.
The debate was originally scheduled to take place before an audience in Arizona, but it has been moved to Washington, D.C. due to to the coronavirus outbreak. The debate will take place from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. ET at CNN’s studios in the nation’s capital. CNN and Univision will serve as co-hosts, with CNN’s Dana Bash, CNN’s Jake Tapper, and Univision’s Ilia Calderón serving as moderators.
The debates have featured a variety of topics, but plenty of cliches and formulaic questions and answers. We can expect some changes in topics given the coronavirus outbreak, but we should not expect too many surprises.
With that in mind, DraftKings Sportsbook is offering a free-to-play pool for the debate. There is $10,000 in prize money, with $5,000 going to first place, $3,000 to second place, and $2,000 to third place. To claim the top spot, you have to make 12 predictions and get the most correct. The 12 predictions include:
Does Bernie Sanders say “Millionaire” or “Billionaire” first?
- Millionaire
- Billionaire
- Neither are said
I’m going with billionaire as I think we see it before a phrase like “millionaires and billionaires.”
Total Tweets by Donald Trump during the debate
- Over 2.5 tweets
- Under 2.5 tweets
Over always feels like a sucker bet, but I’ll take it.
Will the first question be about coronavirus?
- Yes
- No
Yes seems like a gimme
Which candidate will be the first to be told “Time is up” by moderator?
- Biden
- Sanders
- Neither candidate
I’ll lean Sanders as we often seem to hear Biden stopping himself early.
Who will be the first to mention Hillary Clinton?
- Biden
- Sanders
- Neither candidate
I see no reason for either to mention HRC, so I’ll take neither candidate.
Who will be the first to mention President Trump?
- Biden
- Sanders
- Neither candidate
If they do opening statements, I believe Sanders would go first as the person trailing in the race. Go with Sanders.
Who will be the first to mention coronavirus/COVID-19?
- Biden
- Sanders
- Neither candidate
Same as above, I’m leaning Sanders with the potential first opening statement.
Who will be the first to mention China?
- Biden
- Sanders
- Neither candidate
This is a tougher call as it likely will not come up in opening statements. I’ll go with Sanders.
Who will be the first to mention washing your hands?
- Biden
- Sanders
- Neither candidate
I’m leaning Biden on this one.
Who will be the first to mention travel ban?
- Biden
- Sanders
- Neither candidate
Sticking with Sanders.
Who will be the first former candidate mentioned?
- Warren
- Bloomberg
- Buttigieg
- Klobuchar
- Field or None
Biden recently endorsed Warren’s bankruptcy plan, and while I doubt he gets a question about it, I could see her being the candidate mentioned.
Who will be the first to mention Russia?
- Biden
- Sanders
- Neither candidate
If it was Ukraine or Russia, I’d take Biden, but I’ll go Sanders on purely Russia.
