Odds to win the Mountain West conference tournament

San Diego State is ranked among the best teams in college basketball. Can anybody knock them off the throne of the Mountain West?

The San Diego State Aztecs are far and away the class of the Mountain West Conference this season, coming into the tournament as the fifth-ranked team in the entire country. San Diego State finished the regular season 28-1 and 17-1 in conference play. The Aztecs will get everybody’s best shot with only the Utah State Aggies in consideration for an at-large bid.

After San Diego State, there is a large cluster of teams stacked on top of one another with Utah State, Nevada and UNLV at 12-6 in conference play with Boise State and Colorado State a game back from those three at 11-7. Outside of San Diego State, the Mountain West has been a competitive conference near the top.

Utah State comes in with fairly high odds to win the Mountain West compared to everybody else outside of the Aztecs. The Aggies are led by the conference’s second leading scorer Sam Merrill, who is averaging 18.8 points per game.

Utah State is the defending champs of the Mountain West conference tournament, which is incredibly balanced over the past few years. Six different schools won the conference title in each of the last six seasons.
