Odds to win the Southern Conference tournament

East Tennessee State enters the Southern Conference tournament as a bubble team. Can the Buccaneers still get in with a loss?

The East Tennessee State Buccaneers come in as the favorite to win the Southern Conference tournament. After a 27-4 regular season, ETSU is currently in the field of 68 according to most Bracketology sites, but a loss in the conference tournament would put the Buccaneers at quite a risk heading into Selection Sunday.

Entering as the No. 2 seed and the second-best odds to win the Southern Conference are the Furman Paladins, who finished a game back of ETSU in the conference standings with a 15-3 Southern Conference record. The two split the regular season season series, both winning on their home court.

The UNC Greensboro Spartans have the third best odds before a massive drop off in the conference, and they are led by the Southern’s second-leading scorer Isaiah Miller, who is averaging 17.8 points per game, only behind Samford’s Josh Sharkey.

The longshot play is the Mercer Bears at +5000. They’re on a four-game winning streak heading into the tournament and beat ETSU earlier in the regular season.

The Wofford Terriers are the defending champs of this tournament and are tied for the fifth best odds in the conference to repeat.
