Post-round 1 update: The Dolphins were the subject of numerous draft rumors, but they ended up standing pat and drafting Tua Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick. Following the selection, Ryan Fitzpatrick improved to -200 as the favorite to be starting in Week 1. Tagovailoa entered the draft +250 to be the Dolphins Week 1 starter, and has improved to +160. Josh Rosen remains +2000.
The 2020 NFL Draft is less than six hours away, and a lot of depth charts are about to get shaken up for the first time since the early days of free agency. The quarterback position is settled for a lot of times, but it is one where we’ll see multiple potential rookie starters drafted on Thursday.
LSU quarterback Joe Burrow will be first off the board to the Cincinnati Bengals, but it becomes a bit of guess-work who goes after that. Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert are decent bets to go fifth and sixth to the Dolphins and Chargers, respectively, but a trade could change that in a hurry.
DraftKings Sportsbook offers odds on who will be the Miami Dolphins starting quarterback when Week 1 arrives this fall. 2019 starter Ryan Fitzpatrick is favored at -150, followed by Tagovailoa (+250) and Herbert (+300). Dolphins rumors are all over the place, with some discussion of a potential move up to draft a tackle at No. 3, and another rumor that they want to make the Bengals a godfather offer to get Burrow at No. 1.
The odds offer some wild cards as well, with Cam Newton slotting in at +1600 and Andy Dalton at +3300. If they want to go with another veteran, Newton could make some sense. Dalton is an option, but given his limited ceiling, I’d rather just stick with Fitzpatrick.
We’ll update these odds as they potentially change following the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Ryan Fitzpatrick: -150
Tua Tagovailoa: +250
Justin Herbert: +300
Cam Newton: +1600
Josh Rosen: +2000
Andy Dalton: +3300
Jordan Love: +3300
Jameis Winston: +4000
