Post round 1 update: As many predicted, the Chargers drafted Justin Herbert with the sixth overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. DraftKings Sportsbook updated the odds for their Week 1 starting quarterback and Tyrod Taylor is a sizable favorite at -305. Herbert is +250, Cam Newton is +2000, and Easton Stick is +5000.
The 2020 NFL Draft is upon us, and Thursday evening a lot of depth charts will see some shake-up at key positions. Most teams in the NFL know who their starter will be in Week 1 of the coming season, but Thursday’s first round could bring some players who will shake things up for a handful of teams.
LSU quarterback Joe Burrow will be first off the board to the Cincinnati Bengals, but it becomes a bit of guess-work who goes after that. Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert are decent bets to go fifth and sixth to the Dolphins and Chargers, respectively, but a trade could change that in a hurry.
DraftKings Sportsbook offers odds on who will be the Los Angeles Chargers starting quarterback when Week 1 arrives this fall. 2019 backup Tyrod Taylor is favored at -125, followed by Cam Newton at +225. There have been some Newton rumors, but his landing spot won’t be cleared up until after the draft wraps up.
Which brings us to the next level of odds. Tagovailoa and Herbert are currently even at +500 apiece, with a drop-off to Andy Dalton and Jameis Winston at +2000. The Dolphins sit ahead of the Chargers and have a quarterback need themselves. Add in the Lions reported willingness to move down from the third pick and there is still a chance the Chargers end up without a chair when the music stops. Of course, with Anthony Lynn reportedly “legitimately bullish” on Taylor, maybe none of this matters.
