We’re through the 2020 NFL Draft, and we’ve seen Offensive Rookie of the Year odds change following the seven-round draft. Joe Burrow was the front runner before the draft as the consensus top pick, and that hasn’t changed. But there are other candidates who could challenge him. We take a look at the odds of the favorites, risers, fallers, and sleepers at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Favorites
Joe Burrow, +215
Burrow was +250 before he was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with No. 1 pick, and he’s seen his odds improve to +215 since the conclusion of the draft. The Bengals built on their solid receiving corp by adding a big target in Clemson’s Tee Higgins with the first pick of the second round. The more weapons Burrow has, the more dangerous.
Tua Tagovailoa, +700
There’s a big drop off between first and second in the odds. Some expected Tagovailoa to fall back in the draft because of his hip injury, but he passed a Miami Dolphins physical ahead of the draft and they selected him with the No. 5 pick. His pre-draft odds have improved from +1000 despite Miami’s struggling offensive line and lack of a run game. But, Tagovailoa has elite playmaking ability that’s hard to find.
Risers
Clyde Edwards-Helaire, +700
Edwards-Helaire’s odds improved significantly since the Kansas City Chiefs unexpectedly drafted him at No. 32. His original odds of +1600 soared to +700 thanks to how much the Chiefs value pass-catching running backs. Even though he has a ton of other talent on his team and could be working as part of a committee with Damien Williams, his versatility gives him a ton of upside. Everyone will have their eyes on the reigning champs and Edwards-Helaire should get his fair share of scoring opportunities. Andy Reid’s fascination can’t be ignored.
AJ Dillon, +4000
Dillon doesn’t have the best odds with the Green Bay Packers, playing behind Aaron Jones, but he’s much better off than he was before the draft. His pre-draft odds were +10000. I wouldn’t put too much faith in him because of his inaptitude for catching though.
Fallers
D’Andre Swift, +1200
Swift had the second best pre-draft odds (+700), but has slipped to fourth after falling to the Detroit Lions in the second round. The Lions are a pass-oriented team and haven’t had a player go over 700 rushing yards in a season since 2014. Swift will also have to compete with Kerryon Johnson for touches, so things aren’t looking great for him.
Jonathan Taylor, +1000
Taylor had the third best pre-draft odds (+800) but appears posed to be a backup for the Indianapolis Colts. Marlon Mack rushed for over 1,000 yards last season and the team brought on Philip Rivers and some wide receivers to improve its passing prowess in 2020. Taylor could be a valuable contributor as a change-of-pace back, but he probably won’t do enough to be among the finalists for Rookie of the Year.
Sleeper
Henry Ruggs III, +1800
Ruggs had the sixth best odds (+2000) and was even with the likes of CeeDee Lamb and Cam Akers ahead of the draft before he unexpectedly became the first wide receiver taken in the draft. The Las Vegas Raiders grabbed him at No. 12, which makes it seem like he’s poised to be their WR1. While he’s not the most polished wide receiver in the class, his blazing speed could help him become a star in year one. Ruggs’ main competition will be Darren Waller, but the rookie has a ton of upside.
