Saturday 3:55 p.m. update: We’ve added in the betting splits for various methods of victory for each fighter. The biggest numbers have bettors thinking Gadelha claims a decision, with a solid sprinkling of betting on Gadelha via submission.
Saturday, 1:30 p.m. update: The betting public loves Gadelha in this fight, and we’re seeing the action grow as we get closer to the start of the event. She was at 59% of the handle and 76% of the bets. We’ve seen her handle percentage climb to nearly 2⁄3 of the total, while her total bets remains at 3⁄4.
The only women’s fight on the main card of UFC on ESPN 8 tonight will feature Claudia Gadelha vs. Angela Hill in the strawweight division from the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville.
Gadelha is the #6-ranked strawweight, and has a 17-4 MMA record. The Brazilian is 6-4 in UFC, with nine of those fights going the distance. The three-time BJJ world champion defeated Randa Markos in July, and will need a win here to get a shot at the title.
Hill is unranked with a 12-7 career record, but the 35-year-old has won her last three fights. A former World Kickboxing Association champ, she has yet to submit an opponent in 14 fights, and tends to work on her feet.
Gadelha is a very public favorite as of now, with 76% of the bets but only 59% of the handle behind her. This could be a great spot to bet on a stoppage from both fighters in their favorite way: Gadelha at +500 by submission, and Hill at +750 to win by KO, TKO, or DQ. It would pay a nice price either way and lean into both fighters specific styles.
